Traditional Meat Fondue

Traditional meat fondue is a beloved Swiss culinary tradition that brings together friends and family around a communal pot of hot oil or broth for cooking bite-sized pieces of meat.
The History of Meat Fondue
Sometime after World War II, Swiss cooks began cooking meat in hot oil as an alternative to their beloved cheese fondue, Traditional Meat Fondue — a kind of French-fried meat supper. The French-speaking Swiss descendants from the Burgundians named it fondue Bourguignon. Today, broth has become a popular, and healthier, substitution for hot oil. The types of broth you can use in your meat fondue are:
- Beef Broth: A rich and hearty option that complements red meats well.
- Chicken Broth: Lighter than beef broth, it works well with chicken and pork.
- Vegetable Broth: A good choice for a lighter, vegetarian-friendly fondue.
- Wine-Based Broth: Combining broth with wine (like red or white wine) can add depth and complexity to the flavor.
- Spiced Broth: Infuse your broth with herbs and spices (like garlic, thyme, or bay leaves) for added flavor.
Feel free to mix and match based on your preferences and the types of meat you plan to serve!
